Chimney Pipe Replacement
This pipe was installed upside down and leaked creosote. The metal handle controls a damper that is not legal to install into a stove pipe today. The damper stops the heat and smoke from traveling upwards keeping some heat, but also ensures creosote builds up quickly. Consider changing out your chimney pipes if you have one of these old dampers.
Other signs of pipes needing replacement is rusting, or discoloration. Newly installed pipes appear shiny but will become matte and non reflective over time from over heating.
